Comparisons

The best Muah AI alternative depends on what you want to keep. Start with Kindroid for character controls, Nomi for regular voice conversations, OurDream for images and video, or Character.AI for free text exploration. The useful comparison is what each plan lets you do during an ordinary week.

Maybe you like your character but want more control over her personality. Maybe you mostly call, and the bill matters more than another image style. Write down that reason before choosing a replacement. It makes a long feature list much easier to judge.

This comparison uses official documentation and publicly visible controls checked on September 12, 2026. Recommendations reflect documented features and costs. Conversation quality, recall accuracy, and call latency have not been independently benchmarked. This guide is published by Veyra, a roleplay-first AI character and companion product.

These are four different starting points. An image-focused service can suit occasional calls while becoming expensive for a nightly conversation. A free text service may be a poor fit for the roleplay you want.

Kindroid: start here if you want character controls

Kindroid gives you places to describe your companion, preserve key details, and supply example messages. Its memory documentation distinguishes those persistent details from automated long-term recall and subscriber-only Cascaded Memory. That makes it a useful candidate if you want to actively shape a character and understand the available controls. Kindroid memory guide

The trade-off is attention. You need to decide which details matter and whether the resulting character feels right. A larger memory allowance alone cannot establish better recall in your conversations.

For voice, look beyond the subscription price. Kindroid bills generated audio against credits, charges V3 voices at a higher rate than V2, and adds 400 credits for each full minute of an active voice or video call. Audio top-ups cost $11.99 for 500,000 credits on the web. Its approximate audio-minute conversion therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed call duration. Audio billing details

The standard web plan costs less than the app-store plan, which lists $15.99 monthly or $159.99 annually. Memory upgrades are separate paid add-ons. Its three-day premium trial also requires a payment method and converts to a subscription unless canceled. Subscription terms

Choose it for: shaping a particular character with explicit controls. Skip it if: you want to avoid setup or monitoring an audio balance.

Nomi: a candidate for regular calls and ongoing conversation

Nomi’s call documentation says spoken conversations share history with text. Paid subscribers can use its in-house and Custom Voices without a usage cap. That is a practical reason to shortlist it if you want to talk often without calculating a per-minute voice balance. The documentation also says replies take processing time, so “hands-free” does not mean instantaneous. Nomi call guide

For continuity, Nomi describes short-, medium-, and long-term memory. It explicitly acknowledges that a stored detail may fail to surface when needed. Treat that as a useful limit to understand when comparing memory claims. How Nomi memory works

You can also add relationship context, preferences, boundaries, and character details through Backstory+. That provides a place to rebuild the essentials of a Muah character, although it does not establish compatibility with a Muah export. Backstory+ guide

Unlimited voice does not make every activity unlimited. Extra media beyond daily allowances can use Nomi credits. Nomi credit values

Choose it for: frequent spoken conversations with shared text context. Skip it if: your main requirement is a verified automatic transfer of your existing character and history. For a broader comparison, see our Nomi alternatives guide.

OurDream: price the calls alongside the pictures

OurDream combines chat with image and video generation. Its cost guide distinguishes ordinary subscriber chat, which uses no Dreamcoins, from Genius and Lively Genius responses, which cost one coin each. Voice calls, images, and videos draw from the coin balance. OurDream usage costs

The practical calculation is simple: 1,000 coins divided by 50 coins per call minute equals 20 minutes. That is what the recurring monthly allocation covers if you spend all of it on calls. It is an illustrative budget calculation, not a measured call session. Pictures, videos, or other coin purchases within the app reduce what remains for calls. Monthly allocation · Call rate

The annual plan adds a 1,000-coin starting bonus. It does not turn the recurring allowance into 2,000 coins every month. Its advertised $9.99 monthly equivalent also means paying $119.88 upfront. Annual billing explanation

Choose it for: a mix of visual content and chat, with occasional calls you can budget for. Skip it if: long daily calls are the main reason you are switching and you want them covered by the base allowance.

Character.AI: a free text option with a clear content limit

Character.AI is a useful starting point if you want to explore public characters before paying. Creators can make characters publicly discoverable, and the current help center confirms free unlimited messaging. Paid plans offer additional features, including different memory allowances. Character sharing · Current plans

There is a decisive limitation for some Muah users: Character.AI prohibits pornographic content. If explicit sexual roleplay is your reason for using a companion service, its free access will not solve that requirement. Character.AI’s NSFW policy

Choose it for: trying character conversations without a text subscription. Skip it if: explicit adult roleplay is essential. Our Character.AI alternatives guide explores that separate switching decision.

Before leaving Muah, check which kind of call you use

“Voice” can describe three experiences:

Muah’s official FAQ describes a phone-number setup for eligible calling access. Its public demo also displays call and recording controls. Those controls alone do not establish your account’s entitlement or prove that another service replaces the same call workflow. Muah FAQ · Public demo

If telephone-number calling matters, confirm that exact feature with the replacement before paying. A phone-shaped button is insufficient evidence.

Staying can also be reasonable. If your current character behaves the way you want and your usual calls fit your budget, compare a replacement against that experience. Switching has a cost in time even when the new text plan is free.

Rebuild the character you care about

A saved transcript and a working memory system serve different purposes. Before canceling, save the character details and selected conversation milestones you want to retain. If you obtain an export, keep the original file. Confirm the destination’s supported import format before relying on it.

There is no verified cross-platform Muah import workflow established by the sources in this guide. A short character summary is therefore the practical starting point:

What to preserveWhat to write down
IdentityName, adult age, background, interests, and the traits that should stay consistent
VoiceTwo or three short examples of the tone you like
RelationshipHow you met within the fiction, nicknames, and the current relationship
Shared historyA few meaningful events, with dates or context where useful
PreferencesBoundaries, preferred response length, and things you want avoided
Current sceneWhere the conversation left off and what remains unresolved

For example, “warm, quietly funny, asks about my painting class, avoids pet names” gives you more to work with than “make her exactly like my old companion.” Add that summary to the destination’s available character fields, respecting their limits.

Then try an ordinary conversation. Return later to a detail you introduced. Try the call style you normally use, if the plan permits it, and check the balance afterward. Compare what happened with your original reason for leaving. This is a suggested evaluation routine, not a claim about results from any service.

FAQ

Is there a free Muah AI alternative?

Character.AI confirms free unlimited text messaging, subject to its content rules. Kindroid also lists free unlimited Lite-model messages, with more limited memory and a small lifetime audio allowance. Neither statement means free access to every paid feature. Character.AI plans · Kindroid free tier

Which option is worth considering for frequent voice calls?

Nomi is a candidate because its paid in-house and Custom Voice usage is unlimited. Check the voice you intend to use: the separate ElevenLabs integration follows your ElevenLabs plan’s limits. That pricing distinction does not establish a winner for sound quality. Nomi voice availability

Will moving my character preserve the same relationship?

You can carry over a description and selected history. You should expect to rebuild context and evaluate the new character’s behavior. Importing text, where supported, does not demonstrate that two services interpret or recall it identically.

Where Veyra fits

Veyra is available for two distinct text-led experiences. Roleplay lets you create a fictional adult character, define her past, choose the world and opening scene, then enter an ongoing story you can help direct. Companion is the long-distance AI girlfriend mode, with relationship-style texting, shared history, her own simulated daily life, and messages that can arrive first.

Veyra does not belong in the call comparison above because voice calls are not part of the current experience. Start free with 150 messages, two character creations, and five standard images. Plus and Max are one-time 30-day passes rather than automatically renewing subscriptions; see the current allowances.

If calls are non-negotiable, shortlist a service that documents the exact call workflow and allowance you need. If character-led roleplay, world-building, and scene continuity matter more, start free and test Veyra alongside your current companion before switching.
